MISSIONARY CLUB OF
ST. JOHN BOSCO
The club was established in 2016 in response to the needs of children who, for various reasons, including financial ones, were not enrolled in public schools and had not received any education. Since 2022, education in Zambia has been free, yet there are still many who do not take advantage of it because:
- some cannot even afford the "school supplies," which are mandatory,
- it happens that there are not enough spots in schools,
- families stay in Masansa for a few months, then leave
- it is not uncommon for a 13-14 year old child to be unable to read and write.
CHANCE FOR AN EDUCATIONAL FUTURE
Some of the charges have never attended public school, while others have stopped attending. Coming to the St. John Bosco Day Care Center gives them a chance to catch up on, sometimes, several years' worth of material. Its goal is for the student to receive a complete education – whether in a public institution or in our school of St. Guardian Angel.Some of the children who have exceeded the permissible age for entering the first grade acquire basic skills and knowledge at the day care.
FREE EDUCATION
Children – or rather their parents – do not incur any costs related to education, but of course, the operation of the day care is not free. It is sustained by donations from Poland and includes:
- Payments for four teachers (8,000-9,000 Kwacha/month, i.e. about 1,200 PLN),
- School supplies – notebooks, pencils, crayons,
- Sports equipment – uniforms, balls, jump ropes, etc.
